Review of cplash.com - Citizen Journalism Site

cplash.com - a website for Citizen Journalism. This is a website started by three college students.

The most impressive thing about this website is the design and ease of navigation. Very well done. One can “cplash” (a fancy word for a post) on any topic. I also liked the “Governance” section of the website which talks about various political parties and aspects on the parliament affairs.

Website does not seem to be very popular (looks to have started in Dec 2007 and currently have 209 cplashers - as per thier website itself).

The thing I dont understand is if there is a intention to make any money on this or is it a not-for-revenue site. I dont see how any one is going to generate any revenue on this, other than ads (as of now I could not see any ads as well on ths site).

The last thing I question is if this site is really required? We have almost all tv channels and news papers online and sites likes rediff. All of them allow to express reader’s views.

  1. Hi !

Thanks for the review of cplash and liking the interface and navigation!

The TV channels and websites that provide news generally, its felt , present the news from the point of view of their Editorial Team, and most of them are too big to highlight issues that might affect a very small cross-section of people. Also the reader’s remarks are confined to the comments section and in most cases doesn’t allow the readers to provide their opinion as a full-fledged article.

We also hope to provides a platform where people who have independent opinion, but cannot be professional journalists as they might be pursuing a career in a different field, can express themselves. Since cplash.com provides a medium that can allow every citizen to voice their opinion independently and since everybody has equal freedom to voice their opinion, we hope to emerge as a platform with space for alternate points of view and a meeting ground where a discussions amongst alternate points of view can take place.

We are still working on a couple of more features and then we would think abut a business model for the website. However any business model we would come up with would have a social angle with it, because the website has been started with a social aim.

We hope that the website would become popular as we add new features to our website that would give more freedom to the cplashers to express themselves.

Once again thanks for the review!

    -Regards
