SiliconIndia Startup City Event Roundup
I attended the Startup City Event held at Nimhans Convention Center, Bangalore on June 6th. Its a free for all event. Reached the venue by 8:45 AM and stayed there till lunch. Could not stay till the evening due to some constraints. The crowd was sizable and I was actually surprised to see so many people - I could see quite a few students - am sure they will benefit a lot.
Organizers have put the exhibition stalls at the entrance and one has to cross all of them to reach the auditorium where the speakers are present. Due to this, by the time I reached the auditorium the key note delivery has started. None of the key notes (amazon, sun, nokia) I heard were hardly any inspiration or informative for people who are already in business or looking to start a business. May be they are good for students! I have seen few people dozing off beside me. The power outage did not seem to benefit the event either - when all micropohones & CC screens went blank for almost 20 mins.
The good part of the event however is getting my hands on Amazon Kindle. I am impressed with the technology. But will have to wait and watch how it will be launched in India (and the charges).
I have visited almost every stall. Some of the owners are so young that they gave me a complex and envy. But hats off to them for charting thier own path to destiny. It was very inspiring to watch the passion of the founders and people working in the startups.
Off all the stalls, I found Neev, VidTeq and Make My Craft very useful and interesting. I also able to meet Chandra of VidTeq with whom I exchanged couple of mails earlier.
Will write another details post on the startups. List of particiapting startups can be found at siliconindia site. I can see that I actully can start a virtual company outsourcing each function to one of the start ups found.
Overall, I am glad I went to the event (despite the boring speeches in key notes). I could draw some inspiration from some of the owners to start something on own.
